Padrinos
The godparents or sponsors of a Spanish or Latin American wedding, who give or pay for part of the day.
Also: padrino, madrina, wedding sponsors
Padrinos, padrino for a man and madrina for a woman, are the sponsors of a wedding in Spain and Latin America. In Spain the padrino is often the groom's mother or the bride's father, who accompany the couple to the altar. In Mexico, Colombia and other countries a couple may have many padrinos, each sponsoring one item such as the arras, the lazo, the rings, the cake or the band, and they act as lifelong advisers. The role is honoured and carries a duty to the couple.
