Wedding traditions of Kingston
Jamaican weddings come with a big church service, a hat parade and curried goat.
Jamaican weddings often feature elaborate dress and hats worn by the women guests. Same-sex marriage is not legal in Jamaica, as of 2026.
A wedding here
A church service is followed by a reception with a wedding cake, a traditionally dark Jamaican fruitcake soaked in rum and wine. The cake takes weeks to prepare.
The feast
Curried goat, rice and peas, and roast chicken are served. A mento band or a sound system plays at the party.
