Wedding traditions of San Juan

Puerto Rican weddings come with a plena, a pig roast and gold medals for the couple.

Puerto Rico follows the laws of the United States, so same-sex marriage is legal there, as of 2026. A big family party with salsa and bomba is common.

A wedding here

The couple may marry in a Catholic church or a beach hotel. The wedding may include a money dance, a custom in which guests pin money on the bride.

The feast

Lechon asado, roast pork, rice with pigeon peas and coquito are served. A trio of cuatro and guitar plays.
